The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Muhammad Korimi Abdullahi before the Borno State High Court in Maiduguri over an alleged N186m criminal breach of trust.
Abdullahi was arraigned on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the EFCC before Justice Maina Lawan.
The anti-graft agency said the six-count charge borders on criminal breach of trust involving N186m allegedly entrusted to the defendant for safekeeping.
One of the counts alleged that Abdullahi, on or about February 14, 2024, in Maiduguri, Borno State, dishonestly converted N30 million transferred electronically into his bank account to his personal use.
The charge reads in part:
“That you, Muhammad Korimi Abdullahi ‘M’ on or about the 14th day of February, 2024 at Maiduguri, Borno State, within the jurisdiction of this honourable court, having been entrusted with the sum of N30,000,000.00 only via electronic transfer to your bank account dishonestly converted same to your own use…”
The EFCC said the alleged offence contravenes Section 299 of the Borno State Penal Code Law and Other Matters Connected Therewith Law, 2023, and is punishable under Section 300 of the same law.
Abdullahi pleaded not guilty to the charges after they were read to him in court.
Following his plea, EFCC counsel, N.T. Iko, urged the court to adjourn the case for trial and remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending the determination of the matter.
Justice Lawan subsequently adjourned the case until September 7, 2026, for further proceedings. The judge also ordered that Abdullahi be remanded at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Centre.
According to the EFCC, the defendant’s alleged involvement in the case began after N186 million was transferred to him for safekeeping, but he allegedly diverted the funds for personal use.
The commission disclosed the development in a statement issued by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, on Tuesday.
