Egypt: President El-Sisi Speaks with Spain’s Prime Minister Sánchez

CAIRO, Egypt, July 30, 2026/APO Group/ —

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi spoke over the phone with Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez.

Ambassador Mohamed El‑Shennawy said Spain’s Prime Minister expressed his country’s condemnation of the incident that affected two vessels in Damietta Port on 29 July 2026 as a result of a drone attack, affirming the solidarity of Spain’s government and people with Egypt in this circumstance.

President El-Sisi noted that the competent authorities are conducting investigations to ascertain the details and circumstances of the incident, confirming the gravity of the escalation unfolding in the region. The President emphasized the necessity for Egypt, Spain, Europe, and the international community to unite in order to halt this escalation.

The call also focused on developments in the region. President El-Sisi reviewed Egypt’s efforts aimed at restoring stability in the region, which the Prime Minister of Spain deeply appreciated. The President and Prime Minister Sánchez emphasized the vital importance of the peaceful settlement of disputes so as to safeguard peace and security in the Middle East. In this context, the Spanish Prime Minister stressed the necessity for the United Nations to assume its role in halting the ongoing war. He also underscored the urgency of reaching a just solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two‑state solution.

During the call, President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s full solidarity with Spain with regard to the wildfires that have recently affected some Spanish regions, extending his sincere condolences for the victims of this crisis and his wishes for the swift recovery of the injured. The President confirmed Egypt’s readiness to provide all forms of support to assist the Spanish side in confronting these circumstances, expressing his confidence in Spain’s ability to overcome them, and wishing the country continued prosperity and well‑being.

On a separate note, President El-Sisi congratulated the Spanish Prime Minister on the victory of Spain’s national football team in winning the FIFA World Cup.

Spain’s Prime Minister Sánchez expressed his profound appreciation for the President’s initiative to call to convey Egypt’s message of support during this delicate time for his country. He underlined the profound historical relations between Egypt and Spain at both the official and popular levels, and hoped to continue working towards strengthening relations and cooperation between the two countries across the various political and economic spheres.
