BEKWARRA (CONVERSEER) – A bizarre video has surfaced online showing community youths, suspected to be from Cross River State, burying an elderly man alive in a coffin with a deceased student he allegedly killed through witchcraft.
Findings from Converseer revealed that the viral video emanated from Bekwarra Local Government Area of the state.
According to a source, one of those who shared the viral video on Thursday, the incident happened in the Nyanya community in Bekwarra.
“The people of Nyanya community in Bekwarra decided to bury the alleged killer with the corpse,” the source told our Reporter.
Another source, Patrick Adie, also corroborated with Ohobu, saying the Incident happened in Nyanya.
According to him, the deceased is a student of Fidei Polytechnic, Gboko, who died months ago.
It was believed that the man being shoved into the coffin allegedly killed the student, whose name is yet to be ascertained, through witchcraft.
“I believe and also know that the incident involving an elderly man being forced into a casket happened in Bekwarra. All fingers are pointing at Nyanya, and instead of getting to the root of the matter, you rather prefer to issue threats and throwing tantrums everywhere.
“Let me remind those of you feigning ignorance that the incident involved a Fidei Polytechnic Student who died some months ago and it was the coursemates aided by the irate youths that orchestrated that act,” Adie said as those who shared the video on social media are being questioned.

The Acting Chairman of Bekwarra, Hon. Odama Egbung, has reacted to the viral video, prompting security personnel and stakeholders to commence investigation with immediate effect.
“…the 19th of November, 2025 a disturbing video of an elderly man being enclosed in a casket with a corpse with sounds of irate youths speaking Bekwarra in the background surfaced online and has since gone viral on social media. The video portrays a scene of an elderly man being assaulted by angry youths for witchcraft. The cruelty meted out on the elderly man was so horrifying prompting me to quickly engage all the security heads in the local government to commnce immediate investigation.
“However, preliminary investigations by all security heads across the local government have not been able to identify the particular ward, village or community where the scene was allegedly perpetrated. I instructed the Ward Relations Officers of all the political wards to liaise with their clan heads, chiefs and community youth leaders in their various wards to identify the victim and those responsible for the video. Unfortunately, we’re yet identify the victim and where the scene on the video was recorded.
“While investigations are ongoing, I am pleading with anyone with first hand information on the scene of the alleged assault to kindly speak up. You can contact the ward relations officer in your ward or visist the Divisional Police Headquarters, Abuochiche with useful information.
“For the main time, forensic investigators are also tracing the source and authenticity of the said video. Social media handles of some individuals who facilitated the spread of the said video have been documented for the purposes questioning and investigation into the source and authenticity.
“I urge the general public to remain calm and vigilant and to report any suspicious activity to the law enforcement authorities,” Hon. Egbung said.
