Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem has emerged as the Speaker of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly.

CONVERSEER reports that Ayambem emerged as the Speaker on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, during the inauguration of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly in Calabar.

Ayambem is the Member representing Ikom II State Constituency and he is doing his second term.

Ayambem was voted unopposed, while Hon. Sylvester Agabi of Obudu State constituency emerged as the Deputy Speaker of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly.

CONVERSEER earlier reported that the Speakership position was micro-zoned by the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to the old Ikom (Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency), leaving Ayambem and Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong of Boki II State Constituency as the contenders.

However, it was concluded that Ayambem who is a second-term member to be Speaker as against Bisong who is a third-term member.

Ayambem takes over from Rt. Hon. Eteng Jones Williams, who is now Senator representing Cross River Central Senatorial District.

Ayambem was sworn in immediately.
