Enugu ADC calls for Idigio’s resignation, backs David Mark

By Joe Udo

ENUGU (CONVERSEER) – The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Enugu State has called for the resignation of its National Organising Secretary, Prince Chinedu Idigo, over alleged anti-party activities.

The demand follows growing tension within the party, triggered by the controversial de-recognition of the ADC’s national leadership by INEC, including Senator David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola.

Enugu stakeholders reaffirmed their loyalty to the recognised leadership, insisting the party remains united at the national level, with no factions. They described dissenting elements as “moles” allegedly working with external forces to destabilise the ADC.

Speaking during a media briefing, National Working Committee member Kenneth Okonkwo accused Idigo of being involved in a plot linked to former Enugu State Governor, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo. The alleged plan, he said, is to seize control of the party’s structure in the state and align it with the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The development signals a deepening internal crisis within the ADC as political alignments begin to shape ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Okonkwo insisted that Idigo must resign or be removed immediately, before he compromises everything about ADC in Enugu State, to ensure that the ruling APC faces no opposition in the state.

The National Ex officio member described Nwodo and Idigo as alleged moles in the ADC, working to hijack the party structure, to use it to deliver Governor Peter Mbah and every other APC candidate in Enugu State during the 2027 general election.

Okonkwo said, “Everybody in Nigeria now knows that APC wants to destroy ADC using the instrumentality of the governmental institutions and also using some moles within the ADC.

“You know that intimate enemies are more powerful than even the external enemies. As you are aware, we have already slated this period for our congresses and I am here as a member of the NWC to ensure that the congresses are going in line with our constitution, rules and regulations, because when other people are attacking you, you must ensure that everything you are doing is in order.

“I am very unhappy that I am not in Abuja now. We are supposed to be participating in the protest over the derecognition of our national leadership by INEC. As you know, we were surprised that the Enugu State ADC Chairman, Stella Chukwuma, joined some other chairmen to say they are now part of a group that I do not know which place they belong.

“However, I want to state clearly that the ADC Enugu State Executive Committee is fully in support of the David Mark-led executive. ADC does not have any faction. What we have are moles that are being used to know whether they can truncate ADC, because APC does not want an election in 2027. They know that if they can destroy ADC, Tinubu will run unopposed. So there is nothing like faction in ADC.”

Speaking further, Okonkwo accused Idigbo of becoming a tool in the hands of the APC, trying to truncate the ADC in Enugu State.

He said: “It is unfortunate that even within the highest level of people who are claiming to be leaders in ADC, some of them are working for APC. I know of Okwesilieze Nwodo, who is claiming that he came into ADC on December 31, 2025.

“But I can assure you now that he is working for APC and he is working hard to take over the structure of ADC in Enugu state in order to use it to work for APC. On January 4, 2026, Okwesilieze had a meeting in his house where he summoned ADC members and told them that they were going to work for the APC in Enugu State. He said that they are going to deliver everybody, from the governor to every APC candidate in Enugu state during the 2027 general election.

“And what they want to do is to remove every ADC legacy member in Enugu State. So, in the purported forms for the convention, they will say that no ADC legacy member is part of it. And Nwodo is using, unfortunately, the National Organising Secretary of ADC to see how he will actualise this plot.

“With me here are three different letters of congress committee members issued by the National Organising Secretary within 48 hours. Look at his signature. And this has thrown the whole Enugu State ADC into confusion, because we do not even know which congress committee is organising the congress.

“And what Prince Idigo does is that whenever he writes one, he will go and ask them if it will be okay to help them deliver the structure to Okwesilieze Nwodo, and he will write another one. I won’t be surprised if another one comes before this night. So, Prince Chinedu Idigo has become a tool in the hands of APC, trying to truncate ADC in Enugu state.”

He continued: “None of the people Nwodo nominated is known to the APC in Enugu. You can see that they have even nominated one person with a foreign number who has lived abroad for the past 40 years.

“So, what he does is that he comes home only to contest the election. All the people they said that Okwesilieze Nwodo nominated, none of them has attended any meeting of ADC. I don’t know why Chinedu Idigo will be calling the name of Professor Bart Nnaji, saying that the former Minister of Power nominated somebody.

“I am sure he is lying because Prof Nnaji openly declared that he is not a member of ADC and that he is not partisan and that he works for the government. We all know he is into this private power project. So, he is a contractor to the government and does not want to be partisan.”

“Unfortunately, these are the people that Chinedu Idigo is saying are the members of the leadership of ADC. They have never attended any meeting of ADC. In our last National Working Committee meeting, we said we do not want Nicodemus politicians. We do not want anybody saying the person will support us from behind. If you are with us, you have to come out openly. If you are not with us, please stay away. So, anybody who is not an ADC member, flesh and blood, publicly does not have any right to nominate anybody in any committee.”

Kenneth Okonkwo, flanked at the media briefing by the Consensus Chairman of ADC Enugu State, Major General Chris Sunday Eze, the Chairman of Contact and Awareness Committee, Comrade Adolphus Ude, Enugu North and Enugu West Chairmen, Kingsley Acharabuagu and Kosisochukwu Chibuoke respectively, and other stakeholders.
