In its role as a reliable source of information and an indispensable contributor to the analysis of developments in Greece, Cyprus and the broader region of the Eastern Mediterranean and Southeast Europe, Kathimerini English Edition is organizing another conference in Washington this year, in collaboration with the Delphi Economic Forum and the Hellenic American Leadership Council.
The event, which began on Monday and will conclude Tuesday, will address several critical issues, from the regional security architecture and the US presence in the area, to economic cooperation and the new energy corridors being developed.
It offers an opportunity for government officials, legislators, and business leaders from the US and Greece, as well as from other countries in the area, to discuss regional developments in depth.
The war in Ukraine and the tectonic changes in the Middle East add to the already heightened geopolitical importance of a region where many global powers – the United States, the European Union, China, Russia – have vested interests.
Given its geographical location at the crossroads of three continents – Europe, Asia and Africa – and its role as a gateway to the European markets for trade, including the supply of energy resources, as well as its membership in NATO and the EU and the fact that it’s the leading economy in the Balkans, Greece has added geopolitical value and cannot but be part of the regional strategic setup.
It is through that prism that the two-day annual conference should be viewed and its input be assessed.
Along with the conference, Kathimerini recognized the role of the Hellenic Caucus in the Congress, giving the “Leader Award” to the four members of the House of Representatives who lead it – two Republicans, Gus Bilirakis and Nicole Malliotakis, and two Democrats, Chris Pappas and Dina Titus – noting their role in promoting Hellenic ideals and issues of special interest to Greece.
