As part of his philanthropic gesture to mark his 54th birthday, the Eze Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu and a renowned Igbo leader in Lagos, Amb. Chika C. Nwokedi, at the weekend, distributed bags of rice and other gift items to those who gathered to celebrate with him.
Amb Nwokedi, a renowned philanthropist, explained that the gesture was his way of giving back to society. He noted that, as a traditional ruler, he had consistently used his resources and influence to uplift the less privileged while promoting the rich cultural heritage of the Igbo people in Nigeria and the diaspora.
He added that he joined other August birthday celebrants of the Igboburotu Socio-Cultural Group in the celebration to give them a sense of belonging and foster unity among members of the community.
The birthday celebration also featured the unveiling of an SUV presented to Amb.Nwokedi by 25 Igbo businessmen in appreciation of his exemplary leadership and contributions to the community. Other individuals and socio-cultural groups also presented gifts to the traditional ruler, who expressed appreciation for the gesture.
In his address, Eze Nwokedi, who is also the President General, Igboburotu Association in Lagos, urged Ndigbo to always embrace peace, unity, and peaceful coexistence with one another and other Nigerians.
He stressed the importance of togetherness and mutual understanding in promoting the progress and development of the Igbo community and the wider society.
