Ezinano Community Offers ₦10 Million Reward for Information on Onwa Asaa Festival Killings

Awka South, Anambra State — Ezinano Community in the Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State has announced a ₦10 million reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of those behind the brutal killings of 16 people during the Onwa Asaa festival in the neighbouring Nibo community.

This disturbing incident is part of a wave of violence that has plagued the council area, resulting in at least 25 deaths in October, including residents from the Ezinano Community.

The bounty was announced by the community leader, Ozo Chief Jeff Nweke, during the Second Edition of Ezinano Day, an event celebrating the community’s culture and heritage.

Chief Nweke condemned the killings and expressed the community’s determination to bring justice to the victims.

“To reinforce our commitment and seriousness on this issue, I, on behalf of the Ezinano people, wish to announce a ten million Naira reward for any useful information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators of these heinous attacks on our peace-loving areas,” he said.

He emphasized that the Ezinano Community would not tolerate violence or cult-related activities, urging residents to report any unauthorised firearms holders in the area. Chief Nweke also called on security agencies to intensify their investigation and ensure that the culprits are apprehended.

As part of broader efforts to foster peace and prosperity, Chief Nweke announced a ₦100 million empowerment fund to support local women-led initiatives and stimulate economic development in the community. The fund will begin with an initial disbursement of ₦50 million.

“The empowerment programme is part of our commitment to building a prosperous and peaceful community,” Chief Nweke said, highlighting the role of women’s empowerment in advancing the community’s future.

In addition, Chief Nweke revealed plans to hand over leadership of the Ezinano Community before the end of December 2024, signalling a new chapter in the community’s administration.
