Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Police Force has launched an investigation into an alleged assault and threat to life involving Hon. Alexander Mascot Ikwechegh, the representative for Aba North and South Federal Constituency in Abia State.

The incident reportedly occurred on October 27, 2024, in Abuja, when Mr Stephen Abuwatseya, a Bolt driver, was delivering a package to Hon. Ikwechegh at a residence on Zamfara Crescent, Maitama.

According to initial reports, an altercation allegedly broke out between Hon. Ikwechegh and Mr Abuwatseya during the delivery, with Mr Abuwatseya claiming he was threatened and assaulted by the lawmaker. The incident, which quickly spread across social media, has drawn widespread attention and concern, with many calling for a thorough investigation and appropriate action.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Nigeria Police Force expressed its commitment to ensuring a fair and impartial investigation into the matter. “The Force wishes to reaffirm its commitment and readiness to ensure justice is served accordingly,” the statement read. “We are currently reviewing all available evidence and statements from both parties involved.”
