The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has introduced a new biometric facial recognition system aimed at making passenger processing faster, safer, and more seamless across its domestic airports.
Known as V-Pass, the identity verification system is one of FAAN’s latest initiatives designed to strengthen airport security while improving passenger convenience.
The platform complements existing airport screening procedures and supports the authority’s broader airport modernization programme.
Speaking on the initiative, FAAN’s Director of Commercial and Business Development, Mrs. Adebola Joy, said the V-Pass system was developed to reduce identity fraud, improve operational efficiency, and enhance secure access to airport facilities while safeguarding passengers’ personal information.
She explained that passengers enrolled on the platform will no longer need to present physical identification cards during check-in or at boarding gates.
Instead, they will be identified through biometric facial recognition at automated e-Gates across domestic airports.
According to her, V-Pass enables travelers to move through the airport using only their biometric profile, eliminating the need for physical ID documents.
The system also strengthens airport security by providing a more reliable passenger database.
With a simple one-time enrollment, passengers can verify their identity through facial recognition, reducing dependence on physical identification, enhancing security, and shortening queues through automated E-Gates.
Built with data privacy at its core and fully compliant with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR), V-Pass represents another step in FAAN’s commitment to delivering smarter, technology-driven airport services across the country.
FAAN said it has been working to modernize airport operations through the adoption of digital technologies to improve security, reduce delays, and enhance passenger experience.
The introduction of V-Pass is part of the authority’s broader effort to strengthen identity verification and align Nigeria’s aviation sector with global best practices in biometric airport processing.
