Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, on Friday, joined members of the #EndBadGovernance coalition and other civil society activists in a protest in Lagos over insecurity and economic hardship in the country.
The demonstrators gathered at the Ikeja Underbridge as part of activities marking Democracy Day, carrying placards calling for urgent action on insecurity, kidnapping, and poor living conditions.
Some of the inscriptions included: “No Democracy Without Security,” “End Insecurity and Kidnapping,” “End Bad Governance,” and “Free All Abducted Children, Teachers, Farmers.”
The protest was organised by a coalition of civil society organisations, trade unions, youth groups, faith-based organisations, and social movements, which declared June 12 a day of mass action to draw attention to national challenges.
The coalition said the demonstration was aimed at urging government intervention on insecurity, poverty, and policies they described as worsening economic conditions.
The protest coincided with official Democracy Day events, including a national address by President Bola Tinubu.
Democracy Day is observed annually in honour of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, in which the late Moshood Abiola, was presumed winner.
