At last, the Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno is set to leave the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC).
The governor dropped the bombshell on Thursday, May 22 at the Delivery Advisory meeting with Delivery Advisors and some stakeholders in Uyo, the state capital .
Top sources close to the state government has confirmed the Governor’s readiness to move and “it will happen very soon”.
The sources also confirmed to Pillar Today that the Governor will definitely leave with all his commissioners and others but “anyone not willing to leave with him can resign”.
The Governor at the meeting was quoted to have said that “anybody who claims he is not aware of my intention to leave PDP is still living in 18th century”.
Speaking with much authourity, Governor Eno said his decision to leave the PDP is final and he can’t negotiate that with any of his appointees besides “elected officials like House of Assembly members and Local Government Chairmen, I have nothing to negotiate with you”
Top sources in government said, “the governor has enough reasons to leave the PDP for APC but he will not destroy the political structure of the PDP. The party executives will still participate and get full recognition at state functions.
“The PDP is terribly sick bedeviled with irreconcilable differences and the governor can not function in such an environment hence the decamping”.
Recall that when the governor visited President Bola Tinubu with former governor Udom Emmanuel and over 200 stakeholders, traditional rulers from the state few months ago, political pundits had concluded that Governor Eno was preparing grounds to leave the PDP that has ruled the state since 1999.
Besides, when he recently declared support for President Tinubu 2027 presidency, it was clear that the stage was set for his departure.
The Pillar Today gathered that the decamping of the governor will be announced in the next few days.
