The Governor of Cross River State, Sen. Bassey Otu, has paid tribute to Mrs Magdalene Abang as she marked her 85th birthday, describing her as a true role model.
Mrs Abang, who achieved the remarkable milestone, is the mother of Amb. Soni Abang, the former Nigerian Ambassador to Mali.
Accompanied by members of the executive council, the Speaker, and various members of the Cross River State House of Assembly and stakeholders in a lavish ceremony in Ikom, Governor Otu expressed his admiration for Mrs Abang’s enduring legacy, emphasising that her influence will continue to inspire both young people and society at large.
“Let me thank God for a day like this. I’m so glad and elated that this celebration happened when you are alive,” he stated, reflecting the joy of the occasion.
He elaborated on Mrs Abang’s strength and the remarkable impact she has had on her family and the State. “We salute your resilience and service. When you turn around and look at the children Mama brought to the world, you will know she is a strong woman, an inspiration to us all.”
Governor Otu acknowledged the significant contributions Mrs Abang has made through her children, who he noted have become valuable assets to society. “You have given us people that have added value to many lives, the society, and have impacted all of us. I want to thank you for the love that you have shown; in raising your children with the fear of God.”

The governor expressed pride in Mrs Abang’s legacy, assuring that her contributions will not be forgotten. “We are very proud of you and will continue to celebrate you. The state will not forget you. We are going to have you even longer and longer,” he said, capturing the spirit of gratitude and reverence.
