Governor Otu Returns Bikers’ Carnival

Governor Bassey Otu has returned the Bikers’ Carnival which is part of the Carnival Calabar discontinued a year ago.

CONVERSEER reports that former Governor Ben Ayade discontinued the Bikers’ Carnival also referred to as Bikers Parade in 2022 following the accident that claimed the lives of a pregnant woman and eight others.

The accident involving a Toyota Camry which happened on 27 December 2022 at Bogobiri, Mary Avenue during the parade also injured 28 persons. The injured victims included 20 adult males, 3 women, 2 male children and 3 female children.

In the wake of the accident, Ayade ordered the Bikers’ Carnival be discontinued.

One year later, Governor Otu reinstated the Bikers’ Carnival, including the Children’s Carnival which was also cancelled by Ayade.

CONVERSEER further reports that the 2023 Bikers’ Carnival will be held on 29 December at noon along the 12km carnival route with a muster point at Millenium Park.

1. Cultural Carnival
Date: – Tuesday 26 December 2023
Time: – 9am
Muster Point: – Millenium Park

2. Children’s Carnival
Date: – Wednesday 27 December 2023
Time: – 9am
Muster Point: – Botanical Garden

3. Carnival Calabar (Parade of Bands)
Date: – Thursday 28 December 2023
Time: – 7:30am
Muster Point: – Millenium Park

4. Bikers’ Carnival
Date: – Friday 29 December 2023
Time: – 12pm
Muster Point: – Millenium Park

5. Marian Road Street Party
Date: – Saturday 30 December 2023
Time: – 9pm till day breaks
Muster Point: – Marian Road (Rabanna Roundabout to Atekong Junction).

“All routes will be closed 1 hour 30 minutes before flag off,” a statement by Hon. Austin Cobham, Executive Secretary of the Cross River State Carnival Commission, said.
