The Government of Cross River State, after a close assessment of the security situation and due consultation with key stakeholders in Ugep and Idomi communities in the last week, has approved the extension of the curfew imposed by Governor Bassey Otu.
The extension is effective from Tuesday, May 12, 2026, to Friday, May 15, 2026, from 6PM to 6AM daily in and around the two communities of Ugep and Idomi in Yakurr Local Government Area.
According to a statement by Erasmus Ekpang, PhD, Commissioner for Information, on Tuesday, “Government wishes to state clearly that the activities in and around these communities are being closely monitored, including all underground meetings and utterances of key individuals, which have kept the two warring communities on the RED RADER till date. Therefore, all those concerned are hereby warned to desist from these unwholesome activities to pave way for the restoration of total peace in these communities.”
“Accordingly, His Excellency has directed the Nigeria Police and other Security Agencies to be on RED ALERT to track down perpetrators and ensure strict compliance with the Curfew. They are to also ensure that Vehicular movement on the Ugep-Ikom Highway remains seamless and unhindered during the curfew.
“The Executive Chairman, the Paramount Ruler of Yakurr Local Government Area as well as Clan Heads, Village Heads and key Stakeholders from the two Communities are further enjoined to cooperate with Security Agencies and sensitise the citizenry on the need to maintain peace and order in and around the communities to avoid a total breakdown of law and order.
“Government will not hesitate to totally clamp down on these communities if the situation remains unchanged at the end of this Extended Curfew by 6AM on Saturday, 16th May, 2026.
“Thank you all for working for the restoration of peace.”
