Govt extends Ugep-Idomi dusk-to-dawn curfew by additional week

By Frank Ulom

The Cross River State Government has extended the dusk-to-dawn curfew imposed on the disputed boundary between Idomi and Ugep Communities in Yakurr Local Government Area by an additional one week, with effect from 6.00pm on Tuesday, 23rd June, 2026, to 6.00am on Monday, 29th June, 2026.

The latest extension, according to a press statement by Erasmus Ekpang, PhD, Commissioner for Information, on Tuesday, is to enable the Surveyor General of the State and his Technical team to complete work on the boundary demarcation of the disputed land, while also sustaining peace and preventing a further breakdown of law and order.

“Security Agencies have been directed to enforce the curfew strictly between 6:00pm and 6:00am daily.

“Residents are hereby enjoined to comply fully and to report any suspicious activity in and around their vicinity to help sustain the prevailing calm across the affected communities. Defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” the statement read.

Adding, “As previously stated, the Executive Chairman of Yakurr Local Government Area, alongside the Obol Lopon of Ugep and Obol Lopon of Idomi, as well as other Stakeholders from both communities, are again called upon to partner with security agencies to lead peace advocacy and remind residents to keep calm and uphold order during this demarcation exercise.

“The Government regrets the prolonged skirmish and reiterates its commitment to resolving the land dispute fairly and peacefully, prioritising the development and collective interest of the State. Thank you, and God bless Cross River State.”
