Greeks Achieve a Perfect Week in Euroleague

[Intime]

Olympiakos and Panathinaikos insist on sweeping Europe and staking a major claim for a spot in this season’s Euroleague Final Four, after two more wins at the end of another double week.

The Reds continue to lead the table, thanks to a dramatic win at Barcelona on Friday with a 90-88 score.

The match was neck-and-neck for the entire 40 minutes, and it all boiled down to the last possession by the Piraeus team with the score at 88-88. That was when Frenchman Evan Fournier worked his magic and scored a buzzer-beating two-pointer to give a huge victory to Olympiakos.

Sasha Vezenkov made 24 points, Nigel Williams-Goss 20 and Fournier 18.

The Reds are now on a 19-7 record, with two more wins than second-placed Fenerbahce.

Panathinaikos climbed to third on Thursday with its 104-89 home win against Anadolu Efes, its second over a Turkish team in 48 hours.

Despite having only one center available, the Greens edged out their visitors with the help of their vocal fans at the Olympic Sports Hall and turned a closely-fought encounter up to the 36th minute into a stroll to victory in the end, with a partial 19-6 score.

Kendrick Nunn reverted to his prime performances with 36 points (30 of which came in the second half), and Cedi Osman added a precious 20.

Panathinaikos has now got 16 wins from 26 matches and should finish in the top four if it keeps winning at home till the end of the regular season.
