Gunmen yet to be identified have kidnapped three siblings travelling from Abuja to Benue State with the corpse of their late mother.
Our correspondent gathered that the victims were kidnapped by armed men in the early hours of Saturday along the Ogobia–Otukpo Road in Benue State.
A local resident from the area, who did not want to be named, explained that the incident took place between Omutele and Ankpechi along the Ogobia–Otukpo Road. According to the source, both communities are located in Oglewu District of Ohimini Local Government Area (LGA) of Benue State.
It was gathered that the siblings were conveying the remains of their mother, who died in Abuja, to Iklenyi community in Okpokwu LGA of Benue State for burial when they ran into the kidnappers.
It was further gathered that after the family embarked on the journey, their vehicle developed a fault, leaving them stranded on the road until about 2 a.m. before the incident occurred.
The Chairman of Ohimini LGA, Gabriel Adole, has confirmed the incident. Adole, who spoke to newsmen on the phone, said, “Yes, I’m going to the scene of the incident now to ascertain what really happened.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Udeme Edet, could not be reached at the time of filing this report.
