Hillary Bisong Declares for Ikom/Boki Seat, Promises One-Term Representation

Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong, Member Representing Boki II State Constituency and Chip Whip in the Cross River State House of Assembly

By Frank Ulom

The member representing Boki II State Constituency and Chip Whip of the Cross River State House of Assembly (CRSHA), Rt. Hon. Hilary Bisong PhD, has declared his intention to contest for the Ikom/Boki Federal Constituency seat under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

In his declaration of intent for the Boki/Ikom federal constituency seat on Saturday, Bisong, however, appealed for a fair, democratic, and transparent primary process, pledging a “One-Term Covenant” focused on accountability, transparency, and measurable impact.

The former Deputy Leader and three-term member representing Boki II, asserted that the need to make a difference in Boki/Ikom Federal Constituency representation was his motivating factor.

Bisong said he is adequately prepared to change the narrative of what decades of inadequate representation have done to the constituents.

He noted that Governor Bassey Otu’s commitment to purposeful governance has shown that leadership must be intentional, compassionate, and anchored on results.

“It is a standard we must not only commend but also emulate. I have sat with the farmers of Ikom and Boki whose harvests of cocoa, plantain, cassava, and palm oil earn them less than their dignity deserves.

“I have spoken with the mothers of our communities whose children were born without a functioning hospital within reach.

“I have heard the anguish of our youth, brilliant, capable, hungry for opportunity, who see a future they want but cannot yet touch.

“I have also walked the roads of our land and felt the weight of what decades of inadequate representation have done to our people. I pledged a ‘One-Term Covenant’ focused on accountability, transparency, and measurable impact

“I have heard every voice and today, I answer, not just with words, but with a renewed commitment to follow the path of growth, service, and transformation as exemplified by our Governor, and to ensure that the people of Ikom/Boki are not left behind in this new era of progress,” he stated.

Bisong explained that based on the present situation of things at the federal constituency, his focus would be centred on three cardinal areas.

According to him, there was a need to address infrastructural collapse, economic stagnation, and youth exodus from the constituency

The Chief Whip asserted that these would be delivered within a time frame of between one and three months (immediate), four to 13 months (short term), two to three years (mid-term), and a legacy of four years.

“I am not asking you for time to prove myself. I proved myself here, across 12 years of consistent, principled legislative service. I am asking you for one term to move mountains, and I intend to move them.

“Having risen from ordinary member to Deputy Leader, and then to Chief Whip of the CRSHA, I have an intimate understanding of legislation, appropriations, constituency development, and the precise mechanics of how federal resources flow from Abuja to our communities.

“To my party, I affirm my total loyalty and deep respect for party structures. I ask only for a fair, democratic, and transparent primary process.

“Let the voices of our constituents speak freely. When they do, I am confident they will speak my name,” he assured.
