House Ethics Committee Refuses To Say If Max Miller Will Be Investigated For Domestic Violence Allegations

The House Ethics Committee refused to answer Friday whether it would investigate Republican Ohio Rep. Max Miller in connection to domestic abuse allegations.

Miller’s ex-wife, Emily Moreno, accused the congressman of domestic abuse against her and their two-year-old daughter and filed for restraining orders. The House Ethics Committee declined to tell the Daily Caller News Foundation whether it would investigate these allegations.

“No comment,” the Ethics Committee told the DCNF.

Miller’s office did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

House Speaker Mike Johnson said in May that he does not “get involved in the personal lives of members.”

“I don’t get involved in the personal lives of members and those things. You know, he’s refuted some of these allegations, and he’s got to work that out,” Johnson told NBC News.

The speaker also said he did not involve himself with investigations during a July 21 press conference. Johnson’s office did not respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

The Democratic Women’s Caucus called on the Ethics Committee to open an investigation into Miller.

Moreno accused Miller in May of throwing hot water on her from a pan of eggs he cooked in June 2024 and then continued spraying her with hot water from the sink hose. She alleged she fell into a fetal position on the floor at the time of the incident.

After the media reported on the allegation, Miller sued Moreno for defamation, citing “considerable reputational and financial harm.”

Moreno alleged that Miller caused their two-year-old daughter to suffer from a fractured collarbone with “a bruise that accompanies the injury that appears to be in a handprint and appears to have been inflicted,” according to CBS News. Moreno alleged that when she stayed with Miller, her daughter said, “Daddy kill you.”

The ex-wife accused Miller of holding a gun to her head in March 2025 and abusing her in front of their daughter.

Miller repeatedly denied all the allegations against him and accused his ex-wife of suffering from bipolar disorder. He filed a domestic violence case against her in February, but moved to drop it in May.

Abigail Angelos, a spokeswoman for Max Miller’s reelection campaign, called the allegations “outrageous.”

“The facts speak for themselves: the court has continued to permit him joint custody of his child. If there were credible evidence supporting these outrageous accusations, that simply would not be the case,” Angelos told CBS News. “Congressman Miller will continue to vigorously defend his reputation against false and reckless allegations designed to inflame public opinion rather than reflect reality. This narrative has gone on long enough.”

Moreno filed a restraining order against Miller Thursday, alleging that he physically grabbed one of her attorneys, Andrew Zashin, during a recent court hearing.

Miller has never been charged with a crime and the Department of Children and Family Services did not find evidence of abuse against his daughter, according to ABC News.

Moreno alleged that Miller made threatening statements against her father, Republican Ohio Sen. Bernie Moreno. Miller accused his former father-in-law of enabling his “daughter’s malicious campaign to ruin [his] life.” A spokesperson for the senator told the DCNF he would “do whatever it takes to ensure a just outcome for his family.”

“Senator Moreno’s top priority is the safety and well-being of his daughter and granddaughter,” Moreno spokesperson Reagan McCarthy said. “While he does not litigate these matters in the media or respond to baseless public attacks, he will do whatever it takes to ensure a just outcome for his family.”

The Ethics Committee opened investigations into Republican Reps. Cory Mills of Florida and Chuck Edwards of North Carolina regarding several allegations of misconduct. Mills was accused of dating violence, sexual misconduct and campaign finance allegations, while Edwards was accused of sexual harassment.

Former White House press secretary Stephanie Grisham accused Miller of abuse in a Washington Post op-ed from Oct. 5, 2021.
