The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has unravelled the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s lifeless body under the Kubwa Expressway at Katampe, Abuja, revealing that the body was allegedly removed from a Gwarimpa hotel and dumped by hotel staff.
The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Mohammed Sanusi, disclosed this on Saturday while briefing journalists at the Command’s headquarters in Abuja.
Sanusi said the body was discovered at about 9am on August 26, 2026, after the deceased had earlier been reported missing by his family.
He said the discovery had initially triggered reports and speculation that the deceased could have been a victim of kidnapping or a “one chance” robbery.
However, the police investigation established that the deceased had been at Good Samaritan Guest House on 2nd Avenue, Gwarimpa, where he had lodged with a woman identified as Mrs Rukayat Muhammed of Garki Area 2.
According to the police commissioner, the investigation began after officers discovered that the deceased’s mobile phone was missing.
Although the phone had been switched off, investigators were able to identify the last person with whom the deceased had communicated and subsequently traced the person to Muhammed.
Sanusi said investigators discovered that Muhammed, a married woman who was allegedly in a romantic relationship with the deceased, had saved his contact on her phone as “Safiyat.”
The commissioner said Muhammed told investigators that she discovered the deceased was no longer breathing and had died while they were at the hotel.
“Rather than immediately reporting the incident to the Police, the suspect took the deceased’s mobile phone and left the hotel,” Sanusi said.
He added that several hours later, hotel management members attempted to contact the occupants of the room but were unsuccessful.
After gaining access to the room, the management allegedly discovered the man’s body.
Instead of reporting the death to the police, Sanusi said two hotel staff members, identified as Ibrahim Omeiza and Kefat Bitrus, allegedly removed the body from the room and transported it to the Kubwa Expressway at Katampe, where they dumped it under the bridge.
The police commissioner said the hotel staff allegedly took the action “in an attempt to distance the hotel and its management from the incident.”
Sanusi said the Command’s investigation subsequently established the connection between the body abandoned under the bridge and the events that occurred at the hotel.
He, however, stressed that the investigation was still ongoing, particularly to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the man’s death.
“Anyone found to have played a role in the death or subsequent concealment and abandonment of the body will be made to face the law,” he said.
The police commissioner also disclosed that the Command had recovered two AK-47 rifles and two magazines from a suspected kidnapping syndicate operating around Kagarko Forest.
According to him, the development followed the arrest of a suspected kidnapper, Musbahu Ishak, on August 2, during which two assault rifles were recovered.
He said further investigation led police operatives to a hideout in Kagarko Forest on August 16, where two AK-47 rifles without breach numbers and two magazines without ammunition were recovered after being dug out from the ground.
Sanusi said the police team was ambushed by suspected members of the kidnapping gang while leaving the forest with the recovered weapons and the suspect.
A gun duel reportedly followed, during which a police officer sustained a gunshot wound to the chest, while Ishak was also shot.
The suspect was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead by medical personnel, while the injured police officer is responding to treatment, according to the commissioner.
In another development, the Command said it had arrested three suspected members of a “one chance” robbery syndicate operating in Abuja.
Sanusi said operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit arrested two suspects, Okwudili Benjamin, 41, and Chinedu Mbaka, 37, during a patrol along Goodluck Jonathan Expressway on September 20.
The suspects were intercepted around Court of Appeal Junction while travelling in a Toyota Camry.
According to the police, the two men attempted to flee after sighting the officers but were arrested.
Nine Android phones, pliers, a wheel lock and other items were allegedly recovered from the vehicle.
The Command said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly responsible for several “one chance” robbery incidents within Abuja.
Sanusi said investigators also traced an alleged receiver of stolen items, identified as Osondu Benard, to NPC Junction, Nyanya, where he was arrested.
The commissioner said the suspects remained in custody and would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
He urged residents of the FCT to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the police.
“Security is a collective responsibility. The Police will continue to do our part, but we also need the cooperation, vigilance and support of members of the public to keep the FCT safe,” Sanusi said.
