A Hyundai Elantra vehicle stolen from Annur Mosque in Abuja has been recovered in Kano by operatives of the Kano State Police Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS).

It was one of two stolen vehicles recovered by the squad in separate operations.

The Hyundai Elantra was reported stolen from the mosque premises on July 10. Police said intelligence gathered during the investigation led operatives to track the suspects to Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The suspects reportedly abandoned the vehicle and fled after sighting the police team on July 22.

Investigators believe the suspects are members of an interstate vehicle theft syndicate operating across Abuja, Kaduna and Kano states.

The recovered Hyundai Elantra was returned to its owner in Abuja, while efforts continue to arrest the fleeing suspects and dismantle the criminal network.

In a separate operation, the SIS recovered a white Toyota Hilux stolen on the night of July 26 along Lamido Crescent in Tarauni Local Government Area of Kano State by the owner’s driver.

The driver discovered the vehicle was missing when he returned and reported the incident to the police.

Following the report, SIS operatives traced the vehicle to Kurna Asabe Quarters, Kano, where it was recovered from a suspect identified as Abdussalam Salisu.

The police later handed the Toyota Hilux back to its owner after confirming ownership, while investigations continue to identify other suspects connected to the theft.

The Kano State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, praised the Special Intervention Squad for their professionalism and swift response.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and urged residents to take extra precautions to protect their vehicles.

He also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious activities promptly.
