The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok Ibas (retd), has reaffirmed his neutrality in the ongoing political crisis in the state, pledging to focus on peace-building, conflict resolution, and inclusive governance.

Speaking during a weekend meeting with leaders of youth organisations and other stakeholders at the Government House in Port Harcourt, Ibas stressed that his administration would promote open dialogue and mutual understanding to create a peaceful and prosperous environment for all citizens. The delegation was led by the Rivers State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Nwisabari Bani.

“It is important to restate my impartial stand on the political crisis that has plagued our State. I remain committed to upholding the law and ensuring that all individuals, irrespective of their political affiliations, have a voice in the future of Rivers State. My administration will continue to focus on the collective good of our people,” Ibas said.

He urged the youth to adopt collaboration and sustained engagement as key tools for peace. “I call on all of you, the vibrant and energetic youth of this State, to embrace collaboration, dialogue, and continued engagement. It is imperative that we all work as one to ensure that the mandate entrusted to me by Mr President is fulfilled. We will continue to prioritise restoration of democratic institutions to make every effort in restoring peace to our beloved state.”

The retired naval officer reaffirmed his determination to involve all segments of the population in the state’s political future, especially the youth, and noted his administration’s efforts to rebuild trust. He highlighted a series of consultative meetings held with traditional rulers, civil society groups, civil servants, and leaders from various sectors to identify development priorities.

Ibas said, “Therefore, my administration’s focus on youth development is a multifaceted approach that seeks to prioritise four critical areas. First, education, providing our youths with knowledge and skills they need to succeed in a rapidly changing world. Creating avenues for young people to acquire vocational skills that will make them economically self-sufficient through skill development. Providing economic opportunities and ensuring that young people in Rivers State have access to job opportunities, that our State becomes a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation, and digital inclusion, embracing technology to ensure that all our youths are digital literates and have access to global economy.”

In his remarks, NYCN Chairman Nwisabari Bani expressed appreciation for the meeting and commended Ibas for providing a sense of direction. He assured the administrator of the youth’s full support in fulfilling his mandate.
