ICPC arraigns ex-Court of Appeal Staff over alleged N9.2m fraud

ABUJA (CONVERSEER) – The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has arraigned a former staff of the Court of Appeal, Munirat Abdulazeez, before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Bwari, over her alleged involvement in a N9.2 million job scam.

This was disclosed in a statement on Saturday by ICPC spokesperson, Demola Bakare, who said the defendant appeared in court after an arrest warrant was issued against her for failing to attend an earlier proceeding.

Abdulazeez, who worked at the Court of Appeal between 2018 and 2023, was accused of engaging in fraudulent job racketeering by offering fake employment opportunities at key federal institutions including the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS).

According to Bakare, the defendant allegedly defrauded eight unsuspecting job seekers of a total of N9.2 million between July 2022 and September 2023 under the guise of securing jobs for them in the aforementioned agencies.

She was arraigned on a two-count charge and pleaded not guilty.

Following her plea, ICPC counsel Hamza Sani urged the court to maintain the previously fixed date of 13th June 2025 for the commencement of the prosecution’s case and presentation of witnesses.

The presiding judge, Justice Godwin Iheabunke, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N10 million with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the matter to 20th June 2025 for a hearing.
