Nigerian singer and activist Folarin Falana, popularly known as Falz, has called for the real-time electronic transmission of election results, arguing that it is essential to guaranteeing free, fair and credible elections in the country.
Speaking on ARISE News on the need for greater transparency in Nigeria’s electoral process, Falz said the country’s election management system should be capable of transmitting results instantly, especially considering the huge resources allocated to conducting elections.
“What would have been great to see was the live electronic transmission if results, he said.
“If we really are serious about delivering free and fair elections, I see no reason why we can’t transmit result in real time as they are happening,” he added.
The activist questioned the justification for the enormous budget spent on elections if basic measures capable of improving credibility and public confidence are not implemented.
“With the budget INEC is using to run this election, now it’s in trillions,” insisting that the electoral body can make it happen.
Falz has consistently advocated electoral reforms and greater accountability in governance, maintaining that transparent elections remain critical to strengthening Nigeria’s democracy and restoring public trust in the electoral process.
