Yorkshire, UK – The Igbo Union Yorkshire (IUY), United Kingdom, has elected a 15-member executive to pilot the affairs of the group for the next two years.
Announcing the results of the poll, the Chairman of the Election Committee, Ndubuisi Akwuegbu Esq, said Dr Emmanuel Nwofe scored 85 votes to defeat Chief Emeka Mmotoh l., who scored 25 votes and Chief Zabedee Ohaeri, who garnered 18 votes to emerge as the new President of the group.
Also elected in the new executive were, Mazi Gabriel Ajok as Vice President, Mr Ifeanyi Madu as General Secretary, Mr Nnamdi Sylvester Azike as Assistant General Secretary, Mr Emeka Ibeh as Financial Secretary, Nze Ferdinand Agina Morgbo as Assistant Financial Secretary, Mr Ebubechukwu Agu as Treasurer and Miss Nkiru Iwuanyanwu as Publicity Secretary.
Others include Mazi Chukwuanu Sunday Okagbue as Assistant Publicity Secretary, Mrs Ugonne Angelo as Social/Welfare Director, Mr Paul Nwovu as Assistant Welfare Director, Mr Kelechi Uzoho as Provost, Mrs Blessing Okonkwo as Provost 2, Mr Chukwunweike Igwe Donald as Office of the Provost 3 and Mrs Ebere Azeta as Women Leader.
The Chairman of the three-member election committee thanked members for the peaceful conduct of the elections.
Responding, the new President, Dr Nwofe accepted his victory and thanked the members for their overwhelming votes for him.
He promised to provide the needed leadership that would promote the welfare of members and the Igbo culture.
Also speaking, the outgoing President, Chief Charles Ukandu, who appreciated the electoral committee, congratulated the incoming administration and all the contestants and the entire IUY, for the successful conduct of the elections.
Chief Ukandu reminded the President-elect that, his election was a call to service and prayed for a better IUY.
Other IUY members who spoke expressed their joy and happiness with the electioneering process and with the final results, vowing to support the new executive.
The election was also attended by the Pioneer President of IUY, Chief Servant Emeritus Mathew Nkemdirim, who played a vital role in assisting the outgone executive to ensure the successful conduct of the election.
Our correspondent gathered that the new executive-elect of the Igbo Union Yorkshire (IUY) United Kingdom would be sworn in and inaugurated during the End of Year Celebrations of the IUY, slated for Saturday, December 14, 2024.
The Executives-elect were issued with their respective Certificates of Return immediately after the conduct of the elections.
