The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has named CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu as the new Force Public Relations Officer, bringing an end to the three-month tenure of DCP Anthony Okon Placid as the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force.
The appointment was announced on Friday in a statement issued by Placid, who described his successor as a highly experienced police officer with a strong background in public communication, intelligence operations, administration, accountability and policing.
Iniedu, who hails from Etinan Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, is a graduate of Pure Chemistry from the University of Uyo, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree.
Highlighting his professional credentials, the statement noted that the newly appointed spokesman has undergone specialised training in several critical areas of policing and communication.
“He has undergone several professional trainings in investigative interviewing, crime scene management, human rights-based policing, strategic communication, and intelligence analysis.
“Prior to his appointment, he served as Head of the Complaint Response Unit, Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he coordinated public complaint management and championed initiatives aimed at strengthening transparency, accountability, and public trust in the Nigeria Police Force.
“He also previously served as Public Relations Officer of the Police College of Information Technology, Kobape, Ogun State, among several operational and administrative appointments across the country.”
Before his elevation to the Force Public Relations Department, Iniedu occupied a number of strategic operational and administrative positions within the police hierarchy. These included Operations Officer at Maisandari Division in Yobe State, Area Crime Officer at Umuahia Area Command in Abia State, Staff Officer at the IGP Secretariat, Force Headquarters, Second-in-Command of the 50 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Kubwa, and Officer-in-Charge of the Force Headquarters Situation Room.
In the latter role, he was responsible for overseeing the coordination and dissemination of security and crime-related information across the country.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General expressed confidence that Iniedu possesses the expertise required to strengthen the Force’s public communication strategy and deepen engagement with citizens as part of broader policing reforms.
The appointment marks another leadership change in the Force Public Relations Department. Iniedu succeeds Placid, who assumed the role on March 8, 2026, following the exit of Benjamin Hundeyin.
