Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has declared that he would seek the attention of United States President Donald Trump if he believes the forthcoming Osun State governorship election is compromised.
The award-winning singer made the remarks during a livestream hosted by comedian and content creator Carter Efe, where he discussed his political ambitions and expressed concerns over the credibility of Nigeria’s electoral process.
According to Davido, he has the popularity and public support to succeed in politics but would only consider contesting elective office when elections are conducted transparently and credibly.
“Until there’s transparency, then I can go ahead with politics because nobody can beat me in any election. If there’s a free and fair election, let everybody come out to vote, I will win. But because of the system, there’s no transparency; they write the results.”
Turning his attention to the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, the singer said he was closely monitoring developments and waiting to see how the electoral process would unfold.
“I want to see what they are going to do in Osun. We are waiting.”
Davido further stated that if he was dissatisfied with the conduct of the election, he would escalate his concerns by appealing directly to President Trump and other influential figures, saying he was willing to take his protest to the White House.
“I’ll tag Trump, I’ll call Trump, everybody. If they still don’t see anything, I’ll go in front of the White House and say, ‘Help us.’ They think it’s a joke.
“Trump will just say, ‘I think there’s a Nigerian artiste sending me a message. Don’t worry, my message will be delivered.’”
He ended his remarks with a direct appeal regarding the election in his home state.
“Leave Osun alone oo, Leave it.”
