The Nasarawa State Police Command has arraigned 19 persons for violating vehicle registration laws and impounded 27 vehicles in an enforcement exercise targeting unregistered vehicles and illegal number plates across the state.
The operation followed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, ordering a nationwide crackdown on vehicles operating without valid registration, those bearing covered or defaced number plates, manufacturer logos in place of approved registration plates, and unauthorized foreign number plates.
Explaining the exercise, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, said the operation became necessary because unregistered vehicles and obscured number plates have increasingly been exploited by criminal elements to evade identification and frustrate security investigations.
He said, “The offenders have been charged to court for offences including driving unregistered vehicles, using covered or defaced number plates, operating vehicles with foreign number plates without authorization, and displaying manufacturer logos in place of approved registration plates.”
Following the operation, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Mohammed, directed officers and operatives across the state to sustain the enforcement campaign to ensure full compliance with the law.
He maintained that the exercise is aimed at improving public safety and strengthening crime prevention rather than inconveniencing law-abiding motorists.
Mohammed also urged vehicle owners to ensure their vehicles are properly registered and fitted with valid, visible number plates at all times, warning that anyone found violating the law would be arrested and prosecuted.
