KABUL – Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, arrived in Kabul on Sunday for high-level discussions with Taliban officials. He was received by Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The talks centred on security issues along their shared 900-kilometre border and economic cooperation, marking the highest-level meeting between the two nations since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021 following the U.S. withdrawal.
The visit comes shortly after the Taliban rejected a move by the International Criminal Court to issue arrest warrants for two senior Taliban officials accused of persecuting women.
Since regaining control, the Taliban have imposed sweeping restrictions on women, barring them from employment, most public spaces, and education beyond sixth grade, drawing widespread international condemnation.
