Jamilu Collins, Super Eagles Defender, Poised to Leave Cardiff City

Super Eagles and Cardiff City left-back, Jamilu Collins, may soon part ways with the Welsh club as he struggles for game time and faces an unclear future at Cardiff City Stadium.

The 30-year-old has made only three league appearances this season, with his last outing coming in November during Cardiff’s 2-2 draw against Coventry. Since joining the club in 2022, Collins has endured a tough spell, including a major ACL injury that sidelined him for a lengthy period. Over three seasons, he has accumulated just 44 appearances under head coach Omer Riza.

Due to Collins’ ongoing fitness concerns, Cardiff City explored the possibility of offloading him during the January transfer window. However, with limited interest from other clubs, the former Paderborn defender remains in limbo and has now been deemed surplus to requirements by the club’s management.

Collins has made 3 appearances for Cardiff city this season.

The club is reportedly considering a mutual contract termination, though no final decision has been made. Cardiff City coach Omer Riza confirmed the uncertainty surrounding Collins’ future.

“There’s nothing at the moment. If every transfer window around the world closes, he will either look to stay or some sort of agreement [mutual contract termination] will be made,” Riza told Wales Online.

Collins signed a contract extension last summer, making his current predicament surprising to many. The sudden fallout between the player and club hierarchy over just seven months has raised eyebrows.

Meanwhile, Cardiff City is in a relegation battle in the EFL Championship, sitting 20th on the table with 31 points from 31 matches. They are just four points clear of bottom-placed Luton Town, making their survival prospects increasingly challenging.

As Collins’ future remains uncertain, the next few weeks could determine whether he stays to fight for his place or parts ways with the club in search of a new opportunity.
