Jigawa Police Detain 20-Year-Old Woman for the Murder of Her Co-Wife

A 20-year-old woman identified as Rukayyah Amadu, has been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command for allegedly killing her co-wife, Asiyah Amadu, by pouring hot water on her.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, who confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement made on Thursday in Dutse, the state capital, said the incident occurred on February 24, 2025, at Buju village, Dutse Local Government Area, following a misunderstanding between the two wives.

“During tur scuffle, Asiyah Amadu sustained severe burns and was rushed to Dutse General Hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on March 4, 2025, at about 0900hrs,” the police spokesman said.

“The suspect, Rukayyah Amadu, has been arrested and transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department Dutse for a discreet investigation.

“During interrogation, Rukayyah confessed to the crime. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

‘In another incident, a newly married woman, Zainab Ibrahim, 22, was found unconscious in a pool of her blood at her matrimonial home in Warware Quarters, Hadejia LGA.

“The Hadejia Divisional Police Officer led a team to the scene, where they found a deep cut on her throat.

“Zainab was rushed to General Hospital Hadejia, where she was pronounced dead,” Adam stated in the statement, adding that the police have begun an investigation and are working to apprehend the perpetrators of the heinous act.
