JUST IN: Edo Assembly impeaches Shaibu

Edo State Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu has been impeached by the State’s House of Assembly.

CONVERSEER learned that Shaibu was impeached during the House’s plenary session on Monday in Benin City, the State capital

According to Channels TV, the move is a culmination of the political impasse between the deputy governor and his principal Godwin Obaseki.

Also confirming the impeachment on X (formerly Twitter), Seun Okin, Broadcast Journalist and host of Politics Today and Sunday Politics on Channels TV, said the development is as a result of Shaibu showing interest in running for the office of the Governor of the State.

“Mr Philip Shaibu has been impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly as the Deputy Governor.

“After fighting the process through the courts and politically, Mister Shaibu will cease to be Obaseki’s deputy after things fell apart between both men since the deputy showed interest in running for Governor and unable to secure the party’s ticket,” Okin posted.

Shaibu is yet to comment on the matter at the time of filing this report.
