Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, says more than 380 suspects have been arrested and over 230 convicted in the first two months of the state’s intensified crackdown on drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Yusuf disclosed this on Thursday during the state’s 66th Independence Anniversary celebration at the Sani Abacha Indoor Stadium, Kano.
According to a statement by his spokesman, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor said the administration established the Kano State Multi-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking in July 2026.
He said an Executive Order was also issued to strengthen the campaign against illicit drugs, thuggery and other related criminal activities.
Yusuf added that the task force had dismantled several drug joints and criminal hideouts across the state since its establishment.
The governor described the fight against drug abuse and criminality as a collective responsibility involving security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, communities, parents and other citizens.
He urged youths to shun drugs, violence and criminal activities, encouraging them instead to pursue education, agriculture, technology, entrepreneurship, vocational skills and the creative industry.
Yusuf said his administration would continue to support security agencies, improve community-based intelligence and tackle social challenges contributing to crime and insecurity.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to creating a safer environment where young people can pursue legitimate opportunities and contribute to Kano’s development.
