Kano Governor Gives Deadline on Empty Kwankwasiyya Properties

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has issued a three-month deadline for owners of houses in Kwankwasiyya, Amana, and Bandirawo cities to either move in or rent them out. He warned that failure to comply would result in the revocation and reallocation of the properties to those ready to reside in them.

The affected estates, originally developed under the administration of former Governor Rabi’u Kwankwaso, were sold to private buyers. However, many of the houses remain unoccupied, raising concerns over deterioration and potential misuse.

Governor Yusuf delivered the stern warning on Monday while swearing in the newly appointed Commissioner for Housing Development, Ibrahim Adamu, a former Managing Director of the Kano Urban Property Development Authority.

“We are giving all those who purchased houses in these cities, especially Kwankwasiyya and Amana, an ultimatum—either occupy them or rent them out. If not, the government will revoke the allocation and sell them to those willing to live in them,” he declared.

The governor expressed deep concern over the neglect of the estates, stressing that abandoned houses could become hideouts for criminals if left unoccupied. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to ensuring that residential properties serve their intended purpose.

Additionally, he tasked the newly sworn-in commissioner with tackling Kano’s housing deficit, emphasizing that the ministry was established to address both urban and rural housing challenges.

Governor Yusuf also praised the Kano State House of Assembly for their continued support in governance, reaffirming his administration’s dedication to effective housing policies and urban development.
