Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has directed all his aides and political appointees to declare their assets with the Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) so as to ensure compliance with legal requirements and prevent potential sanctions.
Yusuf who gave the directive during the Ramadan Iftar (breaking of fast) with Heads of Government Agencies and Special Advisers at Government House, Kano on Thursday, said he decided to give the directive because he had information that that 60 to 70 per cent of the appointees had yet to comply with the Code of Conduct rules.
In a statement issued on his behalf by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf urged those affected to “promptly obtain, complete, and submit the necessary forms, to ensure compliance with the law.”
“The management of the Code of Conduct Bureau in Kano has informed me that 60 to 70 percent of state appointees have not yet registered with the agency,” Governor Yusuf stated.
“They have appealed to me to instruct you to comply in order to avoid the legal consequences of non-declaration, as mandated by the Nigerian Constitution,” he added.
Yusuf also addressed his Special Advisers on the importance of providing counsel and submitting reports on governance matters, and encouraged them to actively monitor government affairs and offer advice, whether positive or negative.
He emphasized the need for appointees to actively engage in monitoring government activities relevant to their portfolios and to submit periodic reports, whether positive or critical, to enhance governance.
“It is preferable for an adviser to send me dozens of memos rather than remain silent for over a year without offering any counsel on governance matters,” he admonished.
