Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, on Thursday urged couples participating in the 2026 Kano State Mass Wedding Programme to build their homes on trust, patience, mutual respect and the fear of Allah.

He spoke at a one-day orientation programme for prospective couples organised by the Kano State Hisbah Board at Coronation Hall.

He was represented by the Commander-General of Hisbah, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa.

Yusuf described marriage as a sacred institution founded on responsibility, compassion and mutual understanding.

He advised the intending couples to remain faithful, resolve disagreements through dialogue, and uphold their rights and responsibilities to ensure family stability.

The orientation featured lectures by Islamic scholars and professionals. Sheikh Ali Aliyu Abubakar spoke on “The Wisdom of Marriage in Islam,” while Prof. Ibrahim Mu’azzam Mai Bushira addressed “The Rights and Responsibilities of Spouses.”

Sheikh Muhammad Nur Arzai also guided participants on resolving marital conflicts in line with Islamic teachings.

As part of government support, each groom will receive 10 yards of shadda fabric, a cap, a bag of rice and a jerrycan of cooking oil.

Each bride will also receive ₦200,000 for dowry and business start-up, as well as essential household items, including a bed, mattress, wardrobe, dressing mirror, blankets, bed sheets and a centre rug.

The programme targets 1,500 couples. The marriage solemnisation will hold on Friday at the Central Jumu’ah Mosque in Kano metropolis and simultaneously across all 44 Local Government Areas of the state.
