Kano NDC Senator Eyes APC, Doubts Obi-Kwankwaso’s Movement

Speculation over the political future of Senator Rufa’i Hanga has intensified after the Kano Central lawmaker reportedly held separate meetings with Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf and the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda.

The meetings have fuelled claims that Hanga, a member of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), may be preparing to defect to the ruling APC.

Speaking after his meeting with Governor Yusuf, Hanga also cast doubt on the electoral prospects of the NDC ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

The senator said the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, and his running mate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, would be unable to win the election.

Before meeting Governor Yusuf, Hanga had met with APC National Chairman Yilwatda, further strengthening speculation that he is considering a move to the ruling party.

Political observers believe the development could signal a major shift for the senator, who has long been regarded as a close ally of Kwankwaso.
