Kidnappers Kill Baby, Kidnap Two In Cross River

Kidnappers have raided a community in Cross River State, killing a baby and abducting two persons barely three days after a tragic incident befell the area.

The incident, CONVERSEER learned happened on Thursday morning in Nde 3 Corners, Ikom Local Government, the same community where Youth Leader, Akpang Ayambem was killed and four others abducted.

According to sources, the kidnappers stormed Nde at about 7am, committed the act and fled.

According to LEADERSHIP, the gun-wielding assailants emerged from nearby bushes and fired indiscriminately to scare residents and commuters.

Confirming the incident, the village chief of Nde, HRH Nton-aton Engineer Nton Bassey Nsan, said: “The kidnappers struck again on Thursday morning, this time taking a man and a woman, and tragically shooting and killing a baby who was being transported for medical attention.”

He added, “A stranded bus caught in the crossfire sustained damage due to gunfire.”

Chief Nsan expressed concern over the sophisticated weapons used by the kidnappers, attributing their success in overpowering local resistance to this advantage.

He pleaded with the state and federal governments to intervene and provide security to the community, whose residents now fear venturing out for farming or other essential activities.

CONVERSEER earlier reported that a youth leader, Akpang Ayambem was killed with four others kidnapped on Christmas Day in the community which has been a breeding ground for criminals in recent times.

The community is where the Cross River State House of Assembly Speaker, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem hailed from.
