The Kwara State Government has confirmed the release of all 176 people abducted during the deadly February 3, 2026 invasion of Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area.
The announcement was made on Wednesday through the state’s official Facebook page, bringing an end to months of uncertainty over the fate of the victims who were seized during one of the worst security incidents in the state’s history.
Expressing gratitude to all those involved in securing the victims’ freedom, the government praised the Federal Government and security agencies for their efforts.
“Alihamdulillaah and kudos to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, security forces, and everyone who played a role in this huge feat. We are grateful!” the statement read.
The victims were kidnapped after heavily armed extremists believed to be linked to Boko Haram stormed the rural communities of Woro and Nuku on motorcycles, launching a coordinated assault that lasted for several hours.
The attack, widely regarded as one of the bloodiest ever recorded in Kwara State, reportedly left more than 200 people dead, injured several others, destroyed homes and businesses, and displaced numerous residents who fled for safety.
Local vigilante members who attempted to resist the attackers were said to have been overpowered, with reports indicating that some were trapped inside their operational base and burnt to death during the assault.
Although the government confirmed that all 176 abductees have regained their freedom, it did not disclose the circumstances surrounding their release or whether any rescue operation, negotiation or ransom payment led to their freedom.
As of the time of filing this report, security authorities had yet to provide additional details on the operation that secured the victims’ release.
