Lagos Government Re-arraigns Evans for the Alleged Murder of Police Officers

The Lagos State government on Thursday re-arraigned the billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike aka Evans, for the alleged murder of two police officers at the State High Court, Ikeja.

Evans has been convicted twice for kidnapping by different judges in the Lagos High Court.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for the abduction of the Chief Executive Officer of Maydon Pharmaceuticals Limited, Donatus Dunu, by Justice Hakeem Oshodi in February 2022.

Retired Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the same court sentenced Evans to 21 years imprisonment for kidnapping a businessman, Sylvanus Ahamonu, in September of the same year.

The latest charge is one of the remaining three cases filed him against by the state government.

Evans was arraigned alongside one Joseph Emeka on a five-count charge of murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit kidnapping.

They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Following their plea, the prosecution counsel, Yusuf Sule, asked the court to pick a date for the commencement of the trial.

Evans’ lead counsel, Emefo Etudo, told the court he just took up the case and that his primary focus was to pursue the plea bargain application and not a trial.

Etudo urged the state government to give his client a second chance so that he could help in counseling the youth against crime.

Justice Adenike Coker acknowledged receipt of Evans’ plea bargain application and fixed further hearing in the case for March 20.
