Carlos Romero scored an 85th-minute winner as Espanyol stunned Real Madrid 1-0 in a La Liga clash on Saturday night.

After soaking up huge amounts of pressure, the home side eventually took advantage of a counter-attack to bag all three points from the game.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side pushed for an equaliser in the final moments as goalkeeper Thibault Courtois came up for a corner, but Espanyol held firm to their lead.

The result means Real were habded their third defeat of the season, and it brings to an end a four-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, second-placed Atletico Madrid enjoyed a 2-0 home win over Mallorca to move within a point of Real, who they visit next Saturday in the Madrid derby.
