The World Bank has estimated that Lebanon will require approximately $11 billion for recovery and reconstruction following the devastating war between Israel and Hezbollah, which ended with a ceasefire in November 2024.

In a report assessing the damage and economic losses, the World Bank detailed the financial toll of the conflict, which began on 8 October 2023 when Hezbollah launched unprovoked attacks on Israel, and lasted until 20 December 2024.

The war resulted in widespread destruction across southern Lebanon and Beirut’s suburbs, with thousands of homes, businesses, and public infrastructure severely damaged or destroyed.

The ceasefire agreement in November brought a halt to hostilities, but the damage left behind has deepened Lebanon’s economic crisis, which was already one of the worst in the world.
