MONROVIA, Liberia, August 15, 2026/APO Group/ —

The Ministry of Health has dedicated a newly constructed incinerator and solarized water system at Bong Mines Hospital to strengthen healthcare waste management, infection prevention and control, and access to reliable water at the hospital.

The dedication brought together local authorities, health practitioners, hospital management, community leaders and residents, with officials calling for the proper maintenance and sustainable use of the facilities.

Speaking on behalf of local health authorities, Martin J. Lawor, Technical Assistant to the Deputy Minister for Administration of the Ministry of  Health,  commended health workers for their continued efforts to improve healthcare delivery in Bong County.

Lawor said the dedication demonstrated the importance of sustained investment in the country’s health sector, while recognizing the difficult conditions under which health workers operate.

“The work of health professionals is not an easy one,” Lawor said. “Our health workers are often called upon at any time of the day or night to respond to the needs of our people.”

He praised the leadership of Health Minister Dr Louise M. Kpoto, saying her leadership was focused not only on directing the health sector but also on ensuring that meaningful improvements were felt across Liberia’s healthcare system.

“Her leadership goes beyond simply directing people; it is focused on ensuring that meaningful improvements and positive impacts are felt throughout the healthcare sector,” Lawor said.

He also commended the Ministry of Health for its efforts to strengthen healthcare services and specifically recognized the Medical Director and staff of Bong Mines Hospital for their dedication to serving residents of Bong County.

For his part, Paul Y.S. Quiminee, Environmental Director at the Ministry of Health, said the dedication was the result of deliberate efforts by the Ministry to ensure that health facilities provide safe and healthy environments for patients and health workers.

Quiminee explained that following nationwide assessments of hospitals, clinics and health centers, the Ministry identified environmental and occupational health challenges that required urgent attention.

He said the Minister of Health, after visiting health facilities across the country, recognized that hospitals should provide environments that promote healing rather than expose patients and health workers to additional risks.

Meanwhile, the Medical Director of Bong Mines Hospital, Dr Joy Cole, said the dedication is a “remarkable and important day” for the hospital, the Bong County Health Team and residents of the county.

Cole said the occasion provided an opportunity to recognize the support being provided by the Ministry of Health to strengthen services and infrastructure at the hospital.

“We are here today to officially dedicate the incinerator and solarized water system project,” Cole said.

She praised the leadership of the Ministry of Health and said the hospital had witnessed several improvements in recent months, including the provision of a new vehicle, operational support and improved availability of essential medicines and supplies.

The dedication of the incinerator and solarised water system forms part of efforts by the Ministry of Health to improve environmental health standards and strengthen the quality and safety of healthcare facilities across Liberia.
