In a remarkable display of unity and purpose, over 1,500 members of the Labour Party (LP) have officially declared their defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ward 8, Calabar Municipality.
A statement from “The Bridge Media”, said this significant move underscores their unwavering support for the visionary leadership of Rep. Bassey Akiba, Member, representing Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency.
Leading the defectors, the Ward Liaison Officer, Mr. Uchenna Henry, said they hinged their action on the internal power struggles and conflicts rocking the Labour Party and the dire need to rally support for Hon. Akiba who has consistently demonstrated capacity, competence, and character.
The APC Ward Exco received the defectors with open arms and symbolically handed brooms and membership cards, assuring them all of equal opportunities in the APC.
“We are on this journey together, and your decision to join us at the APC strengthens our collective resolve to ensure that Cross River State and Calabar Municipality/Odukpani Federal Constituency continue to move forward”, the Ecco said..
The joyous supporters waved their brooms enthusiastically as they danced to lively rhythms of music, transforming the arena into a vibrant carnival, showcasing their energetic display of solidarity with the affable and tireless member of parliament.
Amidst the flurry of dignitaries and teeming supporters, the groundbreaking defection, which took place on Feb 22, 2025, reflects the growing recognition of Hon. Akiba’s quality representation. His unwavering commitment to the welfare and well-being of his constituents has resonated profoundly with the people.
Recall that Hon. Akiba who won election to the House of Representatives under LP had recently dumped the party for APC.amidst internal crisis.
