The Malian government hosted special envoys from Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, and Germany for high-level discussions in Bamako on Tuesday.
The visit, part of ongoing efforts to reassess Mali’s ties with its European partners, comes as the region experiences a major realignment of diplomatic and security alliances.
Chaired by Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Abdoulaye Diop, the meeting covered key topics including counterterrorism, Mali’s political transition, and economic development.
Discussions also touched on youth employment and irregular migration. At the subregional level, the envoys addressed rising tensions between Sahel states and integration bodies like ECOWAS, amid concerns over external interference.
Despite strained ties following Mali’s pivot toward Russia, both sides highlighted the importance of maintaining open communication.
Minister Diop reaffirmed Mali’s commitment to partnerships rooted in mutual respect and sovereignty, paving the way for more pragmatic, updated forms of cooperation.
