Malian Minister’s Convoy Attacked by Terrorists, Leaving Two Dead and Ten Injured

A convoy carrying Mali’s Minister of Sanitation was ambushed by terrorists on Thursday, resulting in two deaths, ten injuries, and damage to two vehicles.

The Group for the Support of Islam and Muslims (GSIM), an Al-Qaeda-affiliated militant organization, claimed responsibility for the attack, stating that it had targeted Malian forces with an explosive device in the same area.

This latest assault comes just weeks after a February 13, 2025, attack on the convoy of Higher Education Minister Bouréma Kansaye near Niéna, in the Sikasso region.

That incident left four gendarmes injured and underscored the growing security threat to government officials.

Once concentrated in northern and central Mali, terrorist groups are increasingly expanding their reach towards the capital, Bamako.

The city has witnessed several high-profile attacks since the conflict began in 2012, including the September 2024 assaults on the Faladiè gendarmerie and Modibo Keïta International Airport.
