BAMAKO (CONVERSEER) – Prominent Malian opposition figure and former presidential candidate Aliou Boubacar Diallo has announced the launch of a new civic movement – the Patriotic Resistance Front (FPR) – in response to tough political restrictions enacted by the country’s transitional government.
In a public statement, Diallo condemned the decision by transitional authorities to dissolve all political parties and associations, describing it as a grave violation of the Malian constitution.
The move followed a controversial “national consultation” that recommended replacing the multiparty system with a centralised governance model.
Political activities were initially suspended on 7th May and fully abolished days later. Legal challenges to the decree were dismissed, with the Supreme Court affirming its constitutionality on 27th May.
Diallo’s public address combined religious reflection with a firm political stance, calling on all Malians -both within the country and abroad- to unite around the principles of justice, legality, and republican order.
Central to the movement is a proposed framework for transitional justice titled V3R – Truth, Recognition, Reparation, and Reconciliation.
Diallo explained that the initiative aims to address the root causes of national unrest, offer redress to victims, and rebuild cohesion through inclusive reconciliation.
He also revealed the outlines of an economic recovery plan worth over $100 billion, already under discussion with international partners and contingent on the restoration of a legitimate and representative government.
