in Politics

A die-hard supporter of Governor Bassey Otu-led administration, Agbor Joseph Ejini has been compensated with one million naira (N1m) for trekking from Obudu LGA in the North to Calabar in the South.

Ejini was received by the Deputy Governor of Cross River State, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey in his office on Friday, November 3, 2023, in Calabar, the state capital.

Speaking, Odey said the cash gift was in celebration of Ejini for the odds-defying feat of trekking from Obudu to Calabar as a sign of solidarity and to celebrate the emergence of Senator Bassey Otu and Rt. Hon. Peter Odey as Governor and Deputy Governor, respectively.

According to The Beagle News, Ejini, who hails from Utugwang in Obudu Local Government Area of the State, is a musician and skit maker, with some of his songs used during the gubernatorial campaign.

His sojourn from Obudu to Calabar on foot was a fulfilment of the promise he made should Sen. Otu and his running mate, Odey emerge winners.

Speaking after he met with the Deputy Governor, Mr Ejini said “I have never been so happy in my life. I thank the Deputy Governor for acknowledging what I have done and for gifting me the sum of One Million Naira. I pray that God will bless him and give him wisdom.”

The budding musical talent promised to make judicious use of the cash to upgrade his music career and create opportunities for youths in his locality.

Ejini’s seven-day journey from Obudu to Calabar began on Wednesday, October 18, through Tuesday, October 24, 2023. The ardent supporter of the Otu-led administration was first received by the Chief of Staff, Hon. Emmanuel Ironbar, on behalf of the Governor, Prince Bassey Otu.

His reception by the governor and his deputy, respectively, on arrival in Calabar, climaxed with presentations of portraits of Otu and Odey, as well as a victory song he recorded in their honour.
