Manu Garba backs exciting duo to shake up Super Eagles squad ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

Former Nigeria U17 coach, Manu Garba, has shown his full support for Tolu Arokodare and Igho Ogbu, believing they will make a significant impact in the Super Eagles following their first-ever call-ups.

Eric Chelle announced a 39-man provisional squad on Tuesday for Nigeria’s 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and Zimbabwe later this month. The squad includes a mix of seasoned internationals and eight new faces, including Arokodare and Ogbu.

Alongside them, Ifeanyi Onyebuchi (Rangers), Christantus Uche (Getafe), Anthony Dennis (Göztepe SK), Kayode Bankole (Remo Stars), Papa Daniel (Niger Tornadoes), and Akor Adams (Sevilla) are also receiving their first call-ups.

Garba, who coached Arokodare and Ogbu during their time in the U17 national team, has high praise for the duo.

Garba is confident that both players can build on their impressive club performances and make their mark with the Super Eagles.

“This is a great opportunity for both Igho Ogbu and Tolu Arokodare to help the Super Eagles qualify for the World Cup and win the AFCON,” Garba told NationSports.

“But they must earn their place by translating their excellent form from their clubs to the national team in training and matches.”

Chelle will soon finalize the squad, trimming it to 23 players, with Nigeria set to face Rwanda on March 21 in Kigali and Zimbabwe on March 25 in Uyo — two crucial matches as they look to reignite their World Cup qualifying campaign.
